Marshalltown Community College offers testing services to students and alumni through the MCC Admissions Office.

Testing (ACCUPLACER-Next Generation) – MCC uses ACCUPLACER-Next Generation (the newest version) to provide an assessment of your basic academic skills to help you and your advisor choose courses and plan your educational program. Included in the exam are tests in Writing, Reading, and Mathematics. ACCUPLACER is user-friendly with no time limit, and our staff is here to help (click here for information about Accommodations for Disabilities). Results are generated immediately following the completion of the test. The MCC Academic Advising Specialists will interpret the results individually and your scores will go in your file in the Admissions Office. (There is also a version for students whose first language is not English.

IVCCD has a mandatory placement policy which means the results of your test will determine which classes you may take in certain subjects. Please refer to the ACCUPLACER-Next Generation Cut-Off Score Chart to see where you place. Your advisor or the Academic Advising Specialists can help interpret your scores if needed. There are re-testing and appeal options if you feel your scores do not accurately reflect your abilities. Please contact the Admissions Office for more information.

To request that your test scores be forwarded to another college or university, complete the Test Score Request Form.

CLEP Testing – The CLEP (College Level Examination Program) offers a wide range of college level exams, for which a student may receive college credit. CLEP is administered on the computer and is available for students from any college or university. There is a study guide with sample tests available for review at MCC’s Library.
