Operation Safe Kid

GRINNELL – Keep your child safe by teaching them what to do when they find a firearm unattended. The most important thing as a parent is making sure you are teaching them everything you can to keep them safe in the world.

On Monday, Nov. 13 Iowa Valley Grinnell Phi Theta Kappa will be holding a free presentation to children kindergarten to 4th grade to inform them how to handle a situation in their own home or in someone else’s if they encounter a firearm unattended.

PTK member and one of the presenters, Tommy Thompson shared that there are over 150 accidental deaths involving minors with firearms every year. “If we can stop just one, that good fight is worth fighting.”

The presentation, Operation Safe Kid, will teach children the four fundamentals when encountering a firearm. Stop. Don’t touch. Run away. Tell an adult. The presentation will be held at Iowa Valley Grinnell, 123 6th Ave., Grinnell from 6 to 6:45 pm. Registration is not needed and anyone is welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
