MCC Alumni Chantel Woerner exhibit in MCC Ray Frederick Gallery begins Feb. 26

MARSHALLTOWN – Marshalltown Community College and the Ray Frederick Art Gallery are proud to announce the first exhibit for alumni, Chantel Woerner, will take place starting Monday, Feb. 26.
Woerner’s exhibit, “Sampler Platter,” will open Monday, Feb. 26 at 9 am and will be on display until Friday, March 29 at noon.
The title “Sampler Platter,” will fit this exhibit as Woerner promises to have a little of everything. She will have mixed poured, painting, sculptures and more. All pieces on exhibit will be for sale. Woerner is a proud MCC alumni. She attended 2010-2013 and graduated with her Liberal of Arts degree. In her time at MCC she took every art course that she could. She then transferred to Iowa State for a semester but decided that university life didn’t suite her.
In her time at MCC, she enjoyed not only her art classes but her philosophy, biology and chemistry courses as well. “Tim was a rockstar! He is my hero,” she commented about MCC art faculty Tim Castle. “It’s crazy to me because there is a little circle in the world of biology, chemistry, and art and they overlap sometimes. It’s fascinating.”
When asked when she started her love of art she said, “As my mom would say, knee high to a grasshopper. She used to tell me that I started with a crayon when I would color on her walls.” Her influences over the years started with her grandfather. “I used to love watching him paint.” She also says that the world around her is her influence. “A lot of people like to go to the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. But beauty does not have to be grandeur to be beautiful. There are so many beautiful things here, we just have to look.”
Woerner is hoping that exhibit viewers will take the time to see the little things in her art. She is looking forward to the exhibit as it is not only her first one at MCC but her first one ever. “I’m excited to have a show that is all my work.”
