Inmann awarded IOSS scholarship
Marshalltown Community College student, Brittany Inmann has been awarded the 2021 Iowa Organization for Student Success (IOSS) Scholarship winner.
The IOSS, formerly IDEA (Iowa Developmental Education Association) awards one scholarship per year to a student who has taken a developmental education course such as Prep Math, Prep Writing, or Prep Reading.
In her essay, Inmann describes the struggles she faced as a non-traditional student returning to college. She previously attempted college five years ago but was derailed due to some poor choices. Because of the pandemic, Inmann has taken most of her classes online or virtually while simultaneously raising five children. Several of her children were also engaging in remote learning as K-12 students last year.
In spite of the challenges, Inmann managed to earn all A’s in the Spring 2021 semester and has maintained an overall 3.5 GPA. Mandy Fox, TRIO SSS Coordinator and Inmann’s Academic Advisor, states “Brittany is the glue that keeps her family moving.”
Inmann is attending MCC again this year and will be using the IOSS $500 scholarship to help her pay for books and gas to commute to campus. After she completes her Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts, she plans to transfer to a university to complete her bachelor’s degree in Human Services so she can help others achieve the types of dreams she had to put on hold years before.
