The National Community College Aerospace Scholars, or NCAS, program is an educational experience for community college students interested in exploring careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students apply the fall prior to the start of the program. Applications require students to write a short essay and to have a faculty reference. During the spring semester, students complete a 5-week online class. Following completion of the class, the program provides selected students with a four-day, in-person learning experience at a NASA center.

Applications for the program are due on Oct. 13th, 2021. Students do not have to be majoring in aerospace engineering to apply. Students in all areas of STEM are encouraged to take part of this program! Applicants must be a student at a community college and complete the on-line application. This year due to COVID, students were unable to attend the learning experience in person and completed activities remotely. At the program held on Thursday, Oct. 7, a fundraising raffle will be held to help cover expenses for students to visit a NASA location in person. Raffle tickets are $1 a piece and raffle items include tickets to the Des Moines Science Center, NASA kids gear, aerospace themed toys, and astronaut food!
