MCC to host ISA conference April 26
MARSHALLTOWN – Marshalltown Community College will be hosting the annual Iowa Sociological Association (ISA) Conference on Friday, April 26. This will be the first time that the conference has been hosted by a community college.
Undergraduate students from around the state including those from private colleges, regent universities and community colleges will present their research and projects as a portion of the conference. Along with presentations, there will be several round table discussion sessions.
The event will give students the opportunity to interact with others, share developing sociological skills and increase sociological imagination. The theme for the ISA Conference is “Committing Sociology.” The conference will celebrate the efforts of students throughout Iowa who are engaged in activities designed to understand and improve the human condition, rectify social injustice, and engage in community building.
The conference registration and a continental breakfast will start at 8 am followed by a welcome message from MCC Provost, Dr. Robin Lilienthal, student workshops, ISA faculty meetings, student presentations, lunch and Keynote Speaker, David Radcliff, Director of the New Community Project. Dr. Martha Martinez-Firestone, DePaul University, will be a key workshop presenter. The conference will end at 3:30 with awards.
The conference will be held in Dejardin Hall and the 600 hallway classrooms. Participants should enter at Iowa Valley Business and Community Solutions Conference Center, 3702 S. Center St., Marshalltown. Cost of the conference is $40 per attendee and includes meal costs. Register for the conference online at https://www.iasocassn.com/conference-registration.
