MARSHALLTOWN – Marshalltown Community College (MCC) is proud to announce that students from its Broadcasting and Digital Media program have been selected to participate in the 34th Iowa Motion Picture Association Awards Film Festival. This festival, hosted by the Iowa Motion Picture Association (IMPA), will take place at Fleur Cinema from May 22nd to May 30th, 2025, and will showcase a variety of films from both professional and undergraduate filmmakers.
MCC’s film, “Existence of Being a Woman,” a compelling documentary was one of five selected for the festival trailer. The full documentary will be screened on two separate nights: Saturday, May 24th, and Monday, May 26th. It is noteworthy to mention that MCC was the only community college with student productions accepted into the final round of this event.
The festival will culminate in a Red-Carpet Gala event on Saturday, May 31st, where the winners of the 34th IMPA will be announced. This event celebrates the achievements of Iowa’s film industry and the contributions of emerging talents like the students from MCC.
“We are incredibly proud of our MCC Broadcasting and Digital Media students for their outstanding achievement,” said MCC Provost, Dr. Matt Schmit. “Having their documentary featured in the festival trailer is a testament to the quality of education and hands-on experience provided at Marshalltown Community College. This festival provides an invaluable platform for these students to showcase their work alongside industry professionals.”
The IMPA Film Festival not only celebrates the work of seasoned filmmakers but also provides a platform for student voices and stories. The inclusion of “Existence of Being a Woman” highlights the important role that community colleges like MCC play in nurturing the next generation of filmmakers.
