The Esports Console Lounge is designed for the MCC Esports teams to train and compete, but when it’s not in use, it’s open to all students.

MARSHALLTOWN – Marshalltown Community College Esports will celebrate its inaugural Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and the grand opening of the new Esports Console Lounge on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 7:00 pm. The free, public event will honor a coach and ten student-athletes for their contributions to the program. The ceremony will take place in Dejardin Hall, followed by a reception in the new Esports Console Lounge, located in Room 305 (the former bookstore). Everyone is invited to attend.

The inaugural class of Hall of Fame inductees includes coach Samuel Geller from the Overwatch 2 team. Student inductees include Amber Lawthers (Mario Kart 8 DX), Jesus Silva Enriquez (Rainbow Six Siege), Shontario Dudley (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate), and seven members of the Overwatch 2 team: Ethan Hassin, Nathan Jorgensen, Ethan McGerr, Lijah Powell, Ryne Sinn, Ryan Goulding, and Paul Novotny.

The new Esports Console Lounge was approved for expansion in early 2025. Renovations, which began in late May with the removal of old bookstore materials, were largely completed by the end of June. The project was primarily a team effort, with assistance from Coach Max Pietrzak, Coach Nate Rodemeyer and students Brecken Gavagan and Luis Valdez, who helped with cleaning, painting, and furniture construction. While the room is currently fully functional, final cosmetic touches like artwork and signage are still in progress. The new lounge will primarily serve as a competition space for MCC’s console gaming teams, including those for games like Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Street Fighter. When teams are not practicing or competing, the space will be open to all MCC students for playing video games, board games, or simply as a place to socialize, eat, or watch TV.
