Marie and Russell Watt, M.D. Scholarship Established at MCC
The scholarship was established by the children of Marie and Russell Watt, M.D. (Cathleen, Douglas, David, and Kenneth) in honor of their parents and their lifelong belief in the importance of education. This meaningful gift celebrates the Watt family legacy while creating a permanent source of financial support for MCC students. As an endowed scholarship, the fund will provide assistance to students in perpetuity.
Dr. Russell Watt, M.D., dedicated his career to serving others through medicine and was widely respected for his compassion, integrity, and commitment to community well-being. Together, Marie and Dr. Watt valued education as a pathway to opportunity and believed strongly in helping others reach their full potential. This scholarship reflects those values and extends their legacy of service through continued support of MCC students.
The Marie and Russell Watt, M.D. Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to students pursuing an education leading to a career in health care within the Marshalltown community, helping to reduce financial barriers while strengthening the local health care workforce.
“Endowed scholarships are especially impactful because they ensure long-term support for students,” said Liz Wise, Executive Director of the MCC Foundation. “We are deeply grateful to Cathleen, Douglas, David, and Kenneth for honoring their parents through this generous gift and for continuing a legacy of service, education, and community support at MCC.”
The MCC Foundation supports student success by securing private support for scholarships, academic programs, and campus initiatives. The creation of the Marie and Russell Watt, M.D. Endowed Scholarship reflects the Foundation’s mission to provide opportunities, remove barriers, and invest in the future of our community.
