MCC Makes Updates to Medical Assisting Program

Marshalltown Community College (MCC) is excited to announce updates to its highly regarded Medical Assisting program, making it more accessible for working adults seeking careers in healthcare.

The program curriculum has been revamped to accommodate busy schedules. Beginning this fall, the program will transition to a hybrid or blended format, featuring a mix of online coursework and in-person labs.

“We understand the challenges faced by working adults who want to enter the healthcare field,” said Trina Menter, Medical Assisting Instructor. “This updated program offers the flexibility they need to gain the skills and knowledge to become successful Medical Assistants.”

Key program updates:

  • Hybrid format: Students will receive a blend of online instruction and hands-on learning.
  • Convenient scheduling: Labs will be conducted in-person, ensuring students develop essential practical skills. The lab schedule requires on-campus attendance for one or one and a half days per week for the first eight weeks. Following that initial period, labs transition to a single, four-hour weekly session for the remainder of the program, which runs August through June.

Offered at Both Colleges:

The updated Medical Assisting program is available at both ECC in Iowa Falls and MCC in Marshalltown. The program is an 11-month certificate program, which will prepare students for a Medical Assistant career.
