Student Assistance Program

The Student Assistance Program is a free, on-campus, confidential counseling service for MCC students. Two part-time counselors are available by appointment or on a drop-in basis as available. When you need to talk, a counselor will listen and work with you to establish goals. Students are invited to discuss a variety of concerns, including relational conflicts and time or organizational difficulties. Other struggles may include mood disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, stress-related psychological problems, and impulse control.

The Student Assistance Program is designed for short-term counseling, which typically means one to four sessions to identify a problem, set some goals, and work toward resolutions. Some students may need referrals for longer-term services based on the issues they’re facing. The counselor will discuss all options available.

To schedule an appointment contact Nancy Adams in room 408, 641-844-5753; Nancy is a Professor of Psychology and a Licensed School Psychologist. Our second counselor is Nick Calzada, a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Center Associates, Inc. in Marshalltown. Nick is available every Tuesday from 1 to 4:30 pm in room 408; appointments can be scheduled through Nancy.

The Student Assistance Program is a partnership between MCC and Center Associates. It is funded, in part, by the MCC Student Senate.
