MARSHALLTOWN – Brad Permar, a native of Marshalltown, IA, and a longtime Martha’s Vineyard resident, will be showcasing his latest collection of oil paintings, “Trees of Martha’s Vineyard.” This exhibition will offer viewers a unique perspective on the island’s natural beauty through Permar’s imaginative and evocative landscapes.

Permar’s first exhibit at Marshalltown Community College’s Ray Frederick Gallery will be on display opening Monday, October 7th starting with a public reception from noon to 2 pm in the Gallery, room 414.

Brad Permar’s artistic journey began at Marshalltown Community College, where he was inspired by his art teacher, Ray Frederick. He further developed his skills at Grinnell College and the School of the Museum of Fine Art / Tufts University in Boston. Permar’s work has been influenced by renowned artists such as Klimt, Monet, and Wolf Kahn, as well as local Vineyard artist Allen Whiting.

“Trees of Martha’s Vineyard” is a collection of 40 paintings created during the winter of 2023-2024. Inspired by Monet’s Haystacks series, Permar’s landscapes are not strictly impressionistic but rather draw from memory and imagination. The paintings capture the essence of the island’s trees, fields, and coastal vistas, inviting viewers to experience the natural beauty of Martha’s Vineyard through Permar’s unique artistic vision.

Permar’s paintings offer a fresh perspective on Martha’s Vineyard’s natural beauty. He incorporates elements of impressionism, pointillism, abstractionism, and expressionism into his work, creating a rich and varied visual experience.

Permar’s paintings aim to transport viewers to a vivid imagining of outdoor space, offering a chance to connect with nature on a deeper level. Currently residing in West Tisbury, Martha’s Vineyard, Permar’s work can be viewed online at www.BradPermarArt.com.

All of the pieces on display are available for purchase. The exhibit will close on Friday, November 1.
