MCC hosts Fall Fresh Food Festival to support on campus food pantry

MARSHALLTOWN – Marshalltown Community College is excited to announce its upcoming Fall Fresh Food Festival, an event designed to embrace the season’s fresh offerings while supporting the MCC Food Pantry. The festival will take place on Friday, September 6th, from 12 to 1:30 pm at the Faust Student Union on the MCC campus. This event is free and open to everyone in the community.

The festival will feature a range of fun and flavorful activities, including a Salsa Contest, Silent Auction, Jumbo Veggie Show, and various Food Tastings.

Salsa Contest & Silent Auction:

If you think you have the best salsa recipe in town, this is your chance to prove it! Participants should bring at least four pints of their homemade salsa. Two pints will be used for tasting, where attendees can sample and vote for their favorite salsa. The winning salsa will earn a special prize. The remaining two pints will be included in a silent auction, with all proceeds going directly to support the MCC Food Pantry.

Jumbo Veggie Show:

Do you have a garden giant you’re proud of? Bring your biggest vegetables to the festival and display them in the Jumbo Veggie Show! This is a great opportunity to showcase your gardening skills, see what others have grown, and donate these items to the MCC Food Pantry.

Food Tastings:

In addition to the salsa contest, there will be a variety of fresh food tastings available for everyone to enjoy. While the tastings are free, we encourage attendees to bring donations of fresh vegetables or money, which can be dropped off at the Faust Student Union.

This event is not only a celebration of local produce and culinary creativity but also a meaningful way to support the MCC Food Pantry, which serves students and families in need throughout our community.

For current MCC students, the Food Pantry is located in room 79. Faculty will routinely announce the location and information to students during class. There is also signage throughout campus to help direct students.
