AA Liberal Arts / Transfer Degrees

The 64-credit Liberal Arts Associate of Arts (AA) degree is generally considered one of our best transferable degrees. Marshalltown Community College has articulation agreements with Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa, and the University of Iowa, which basically state that our AA degree will transfer completely to these universities. How the individual courses will apply at the next level depends on each student’s major.

Students who plan to study programs such as accounting, history, or psychology, for example, can complete an AA at MCC or Iowa Valley Grinnell and transfer the credits to a university to be used toward the completion of a bachelor’s degree. If a student knows that he or she wants to transfer into a specific major, that student can choose electives that emphasize courses in that specific area (such as psychology or business).

Marshalltown Community College has been approved to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). NC-SARA is a voluntary, regional approach to state oversight of postsecondary distance education. This means that ECC can enroll fully-online students only if the student is 1) from a SARA-approved state within the United States and its territories, or if the student is 2) an international student. Here is the list of states that have been fully accepted into SARA.  Questions can be directed to the ECC Admissions Office.

To get an AA degree completed in two years, students should average 16 credits per semester or take additional courses in off-terms such as summer or winter interim.

We also offer a variety of classes that you can take online.
