Tornado Relief Scholarships still available

Knowing that many Marshalltown Community College students were impacted by the July 19 tornado, the MCC Foundation quickly established a Tornado Relief Scholarship this summer to assist those impacted. For the Fall 2018 semester that began on Aug. 27, 33 students received a total of $50,549 in scholarship assistance.

There is good news for those unable to take advantage of that opportunity in August … Fall Second Half-Term courses begin Oct. 22, and additional Tornado Relief Scholarships are available for qualified students.

“We heard some horrifying and heart-wrenching stories as we met with students in early August who were impacted by the tornado,” says Carol Geil, MCC Foundation Executive Director. “It also became clear that although some students wanted to enroll in August, it was just not possible for them at that time. The Foundation has committed to offering additional Tornado Relief Scholarships for Fall Second Half Term classes and Spring 2019 classes. If the need remains past that time, then additional scholarships will be provided. We know that a college degree is the key for people who want and need to find a rewarding career and provide for their families.”
