Kevin Brockmeier reading is April 6 at the Orpheum

The IVCCD Orpheum Theater Center will feature a reading by author Kevin John Brockmeier on Thursday, April 6, from 7 to 9 pm. Brockmeier, a writer of fantasy and literary fiction, will be reading from his novel “The Brief History of the Dead” and will answer questions from the audience.

Brockmeier’s stories have been printed in numerous publications, and he has published two collections of stories, two children’s novels, and two fantasy novels. Born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, he is a graduate of Southwest Missouri State University. Brockmeier taught at the University of Iowa’s Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where he received his master’s degree in 1997. He currently lives in Little Rock.

Brockmeier has won three O. Henry Prizes, the Chicago Tribune’s Nelson Algren Award for Short Fiction, the Italo Calvino Short Fiction Award, the Booker Worthen Literary prize, and the Porter Fund Literary Prize.

There is no admission charge for Brockmeier’s April 6 event.

The Orpheum Theater Center is administered by Iowa Valley Community College District.
