Construction Tech program hosts ‘Youth-build’ Dec. 5
Monday / November 30, 2015
For the 11th year in a row, the Marshalltown Community College Construction Technology program will hold a youth-build project on campus. Youth ages five to 12 years old can attend a free “Build a Birdhouse” and “Build a Toolbox” workshop on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 am to noon. MCC students and instructor Russ Yarrow, as well as local community leaders, carpenters and contractors will assist the children.
Only 22 bird feeders, 30 birdhouse kits, and 50 toolbox kits will be available so parents need to pre-register their children for a one-hour session: 9-10 am, 10-11 am, or 11 am – noon. MCC gives special thanks to Spahn & Rose Lumber for donating materials for the event. To register your child to build a birdhouse on Dec. 5, please call 641-752-7106 by Friday, Dec. 4.
Parents are encouraged to stay and work with the children on the project. Each child will receive a birdhouse or toolbox kit and instructions. The Wren houses can be decorated for gifts or used by the builder. All supplies and tools are provided, with assistance from MCC students and their instructors. There is no charge. Coffee, cookies and lemonade will also be provided and Christmas videos will be running in the classrooms for children who are early or want to hang around.
The workshop will be held in the Marshalltown Community College Construction Technology Building located on the northeast corner of the MCC Campus, 3700 S. Center St., Marshalltown, IA.
