Over 150 gather in MCC Student Union to honor veterans

Several veterans were present at Wednesday’s ceremony held on MCC’s campus. Over 150 students, faculty, staff, and community members gathered in the MCC Student Union on Wednesday for a special ceremony to honor our veterans. MCC salutes and says thank you to all who have served this great country.

Dr. Robert Moore, former MCC social sciences professor and current adjunct instructor, welcomed guests and noted that this marks the 10th year the Veterans Day ceremony has been held on the Marshalltown campus.

Tim Welton veterans day

Sergeant First Class Tim Welton spoke to guests on Veterans Day. Welton talked about the negative perceptions of the American public towards post-9/11 veterans. He challenged the veteran community to work towards redefining this perception within our communities. Welton is a recruiter for the Iowa National Guard.

Over 150 people were present to honor our veterans at the 10th annual Veterans Day ceremony held in the MCC Student Union on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Veterans Day Honor Tree

MCC student Lisa Butler places a star on the ‘Honor Tree’, which may contain the names of veterans, current military personnel, those missing in action (MIA), and prisoners of war (POW).
