MCC to honor veterans on Nov. 11

Veterans Day 2014

Current MCC student and U.S. Army veteran Richard Drummer plays “taps” at last year’s Veteran’s Day Ceremony at Marshalltown Community College. Drummer served in the U.S. Army (7 years) and National Guard (2 years) from 1984-1992, and was stationed in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm.

Marshalltown Community College will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10 am in the Student Union. The ceremony is sponsored by the MCC Employee Veterans group and the Collegiate Veterans Association, which consists of current student veterans and active duty members of the U.S. Army Iowa National Guard. The event is open to all military veterans.

The Color Guard will be presented by the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Central Iowa Division. Veterans in attendance will be recognized during the ceremony. Last year, over 150 students, faculty, staff, and community members gathered in the MCC Student Union to honor our veterans.

Photos of student veterans and faculty/staff veterans will be on display via PowerPoint presentation throughout the ceremony. After the ceremony all veterans (students and faculty/staff) will be recognized and treated to a free lunch, courtesy of the MCC Food Service.
