Latinx Leadership

Latinx Leadership

Mission: MCC Latinx Leadership Initiative (MCCLLI) is committed to providing educational and social opportunities empowering MCC Latinx students to seize their full potential in post-secondary education and beyond.

Vision: Create an association of fearless Latinos spearheading fundamental change of heart and spirit by embracing life on a new level.

MCCLLI GOALS:

This program was inspired by other cultural-based leadership initiatives. Marshalltown Community College (MCC) understands the importance of leadership development of underrepresented populations in rural and semi-urban communities such as Marshalltown.

Our goal is to provide a powerful space that empowers MCC Latinx Leadership members. The program will help students thrive in the development of their positive leadership style by:

  • Upholding a culture of post-secondary persistence and completion
  • Specialized coaching sessions that support the advancement of personal development, communication and networking skills.
  • Engage in meaningful dialogue/relationships with community leaders about their career and experience in a productive learning environment.
  • Promote learning and leadership opportunities in identity empowerment, advocacy, civic engagement, culture, and growth.

“MCCLLI gave me the opportunity to exercise my leadership skills in my community and provided Ashley Patlanan empowerment platform where I shared my thoughts and opinions in a non-judgmental environment. We had many great speakers with valuable lessons I still use today. I highly encourage other Latinas to join, you won’t regret it!”  – Ashley Patlan
