Bentiwa Johnson receives Robert D. Blue Scholarship
Wednesday / September 12, 2018
State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald announced recently that Bentiwa Johnson, a Marshalltown Community College student, was among nine Iowans to receive a Robert D. Blue Scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year.
The Robert D. Blue Scholarship, given by the Iowa Centennial Memorial Foundation (of which Fitzgerald is a member), assists Iowa college students with their educational expenses.
“Students selected to receive this award must be a citizen of Iowa and demonstrate literary and scholastic ability; exhibit qualities of truth, courage and fellowship; and display moral force of character,” said Fitzgerald. “Bentiwa is an excellent example of the type of student we were looking for.”
Johnson is a resident of Marshalltown and majoring in Practical Nursing this fall at MCC.
Scholarship awards were based on the review of an application, letters of recommendation, scholastic achievement, and an essay on the responsibility of a citizen toward his or her community. Additional information about the scholarship is available online at http://www.rdblue.org.
