Montezuma High School seniors Wyatt Jack and Kian McKeag took dual credit Welding courses through Iowa Valley at Grinnell High School. Impressively, the two received Welding certificates and diplomas at the May 4 commencement ceremonies at Marshalltown Community College, one week prior to their high school graduation!

Wyatt started taking the Welding courses his junior year, spending his mornings in Montezuma and the afternoons at Grinnell High School with welding instructor Dave Winkleblack. In the fall he plans to take courses in Des Moines, then pursue a degree in Supply Chain Management at Iowa State University in Ames.

Wyatt is the son of Scott and Deb Jack of Grinnell and Rita Vanrokel of Montezuma. In addition to taking the dual credit courses, he has participated in football, track, golf, and shooting sports (in which he has earned three state championships over the years).

Kian says the Welding diploma and certificate will jumpstart his welding career in the U.S. Navy. He’s already enlisted, and leaves June 6 for basic training in Chicago. He says he’s looking forward to serving his country.

Kian is the son of Bill and Jacki Bolen. In addition to the dual credit coursework, he has been active in cross country, track, National Honor Society, and Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
