Iowa Valley Grinnell presents student awards

Iowa Valley Community College Grinnell honored several students on Wednesday, May 2, recognizing those intending to graduate and presenting numerous leadership and academic achievement awards. MaryAnne Nickle, Dean of Iowa Valley Grinnell, welcomed students, family members, faculty and staff who gathered for the ceremony and reception held on the Iowa Valley Grinnell campus.
Nickle told the crowd that this spring and fall there were 713 Iowa Valley Grinnell students. This was the third year Grinnell has seen an increase in the number of high school students taking dual credit classes, and the second year that there are more high school students than college students enrolled.
Nickle expressed congratulations on behalf of the faculty and staff to the 46 diploma and associate degree graduate applicants and the winners of awards presented for academic achievement and campus leadership.
The Iowa Valley Grinnell graduates will walk across the stage at Marshalltown Community College Commencement on Friday, May 4, in Marshalltown. Faculty members and support staff presented awards as follows:
Wellborn Commitment to Excellence Scholarship: Lisa Hollopeter, Grinnell.
Outstanding Academic Achievement: DeAnn Dudley, Grinnell, and Kayla Faas, Brooklyn.
Outstanding Commitment: Katelyn Himschoot, Marshalltown.
Outstanding Persistence: Somer McAllister, Newton.
Outstanding Graduates: Kayte Werner, Grinnell, and Cynthia Strobel, Grinnell.
Outstanding Gunsmith Technology First-Year Student: Zeb Fisher, West Chester.
Outstanding Gunsmith Technology Graduates: Heath Jamison, Iowa City, and Robert Barnhill, Collins
Outstanding Automotive Repair Technology Graduate: Jesus Corral, Toledo.
Outstanding Leadership: Tim Dake, Marengo.
Outstanding Mentor: Tanner Toms, Lake City.
Outstanding High School Student: Macy Harris, Grinnell.
Phi Theta Kappa Pressing On Award: Alyssa Jack, Woodward.
All-Iowa Academic Team: Bryce DeKoning, Grinnell.
