MCC welders earn 3rd place trophy

MCC/STC welders earn award

MCC Welding Instructor John Patterson is pictured with STC High School students Joel Medina, Jeremy Rosario, and Christian Potter. All three STC seniors are earning dual credit (both high school credit and college credit) for the welding courses they take at Marshalltown Community College.

Three STC High School students who are enrolled in dual credit Welding classes at Marshalltown Community College were chosen by their instructor to participate in the 2018 High School Weld Off competition in Des Moines last month. With a record 65 teams participating this year, the MCC/STC students earned a 3rd place trophy for their efforts.

“These three students stood out in their class with exceptional welding skills, so I was very confident that they’d do well in the competition,” says John Patterson, MCC Welding Faculty. “Last year the MCC team placed fourth, and we were really pleased to take home third place honors this year.”

The welding competition was hosted by Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 33 at its training center in Des Moines.
