MCC/IVGrinnell Fall Term begins Aug. 28
Wednesday / August 2, 2017
It’s not too late to register for fall term classes at Marshalltown Community College. MCC’s fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 28. Classes can be taken in Marshalltown, at the Iowa Valley Grinnell campus, or online.
“There’s still time to register, but we do want people to know that now that the start of the term is less than one month away, the longer they wait the less likely they’ll be to get into some of their ‘first choice’ classes,” says Angie Redmond, Dean of Enrollment & Student Life. “The process is faster for returning students who just need to register. New students will also need to apply for admission and complete some additional paperwork to get signed up and ready to go. We definitely encourage anyone who’s interested to call or visit the MCC Admissions Office within the next two weeks.”
College is a big step for anyone, whether they’ve just graduated from high school or want to go back to school after being in the workforce. MCC offers many degree programs and career planning resources, so students can enroll in courses and earn valuable (and transferrable) credits until they find the path that suits them best.
Approximately 85% of MCC students earn a transferrable Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree. These degrees transfer seamlessly to Iowa’s Regent universities as well as most private colleges in Iowa and the Midwest.
“Students come to MCC for their freshman and sophomore coursework for lots of reasons,” says Redmond. “The two most common reasons for choosing to start here are to save money and to have the time to figure out what career path and degree program to follow. Students who take the first two years at MCC save as much as $13,000 compared to those who start at a Regent university … and it can be double that (or more) for a private college! Those who are close enough to live at home and take MCC classes save an additional $11,000, which is a big deal to most families. The money is also an issue for those who aren’t sure what career field to pursue, so they start at MCC and take advantage of our resources to help make those decisions.”
MCC also offers one-semester certificates, one-year diplomas, and two-year degree programs for students who want to go straight into the workforce after graduation. The one-semester certificate programs include Business Administration (Entrepreneurship), Business Administrative & Information Services Assistant, Manufacturing Welding-Construction, Manufacturing Welding, Microsoft Office Specialist, Natural Gas Advanced Fundamentals, Natural Gas Basics, Natural Gas Construction Skills, Natural Gas Customer Service Skills, Nurse Aide Specialist, Powerline Advanced Skills Training, Powerline Basics, Powerline Construction Skills, and Powerline Troubleshooting Analysis.
